Inspired!!

Recently I have discovered some of my P3 students writing some questions to me in their TSA speaking and writing practise. The last paper was on based on buying fruit from a fruit shop and some students at the end of their answers would ask "Mr.Man what is your favourite fruit?" and "If you had $10 what fruit would you buy?"....I think eventhough this is not strictly exam practise I think its a very worthwhile and meaningful way to communicate.

So I got thinking!!! I want to use technology to communicate with my students more. I am thinking instead of having a post box in my English room where students can write letters to me, why don't I have a blog to do that instead.

I can post up good work examples for students to see and comment on. I can post up topical things from the daily news or upcoming events and I can even post up some photostories. Its much more for fun for students and accessessible to everyone in the school. Students generally speak only to other students in their class or year so this way P6 students can help and communicate with P3 students through this blog.

What do you think guys?

MrBigBen.com

To help my primary students to do more independent research in English I developed a website for them to use. They can find info on Hong kong, singapore, food, travel and pets. It's great for group projects and independent learning. I want to make it more interactive in the future and allow students to make comments and vote.

The homepage is www.mrbigben.com

Scratch! Now playable on our blog! Enjoy!!

My interactive whiteboard

This is my IWB, I find it great as it allows the students to manipulate and interact with text, pictures and movies. have used it with reading tasks, guessing games and internet research.

One downside however, is that the lights have to be off to use it effectively and it doesn't like humidity!!

Activelesson

This is our first attempt at an ActiveLesson, the students need to choose the food and drink for a party, it's for P3 second-language. Couldn't upload it to google docs. It changed all the fonts and the links didn't work!!

1st Session reflection

We thought that after looking at other people's view on "how you can use technology on your teaching" we came to the conclusion that a lot of students(HKU) use the internet to search for information. A lot of teachers recognise the importance of technology in their teaching and try to apply these newfound discoveries into their classrooms. Such as using WACOM bluetooth tablet for teaching without the need to be standing at the whiteboard. Our group thought that this is a great idea, however sometimes this may not be realistic for some local schools with budget constraints.

Our group consists of 4 English teachers in the Primary sector. We would like to learn more about how to implement the use of new technologies and getting students to be involved with this new technology. With Primary students, it is important to start at a young age in developing fine motor skills.

The layout's nice. Thanks Ben!
