1st Session reflection

We thought that after looking at other people's view on "how you can use technology on your teaching" we came to the conclusion that a lot of students(HKU) use the internet to search for information. A lot of teachers recognise the importance of technology in their teaching and try to apply these newfound discoveries into their classrooms. Such as using WACOM bluetooth tablet for teaching without the need to be standing at the whiteboard. Our group thought that this is a great idea, however sometimes this may not be realistic for some local schools with budget constraints.

Our group consists of 4 English teachers in the Primary sector. We would like to learn more about how to implement the use of new technologies and getting students to be involved with this new technology. With Primary students, it is important to start at a young age in developing fine motor skills.

  1. I would also like to know how new technology is used in classrooms of other subjects rather than English. For example, how do teachers use technology in Maths, Chinese or GS lessons.

  2. That's a great thought. Expanding our knowledge of how other subjects work can allow on better collaboration with theme based learning.

  3. I think using blogs in English teaching has the advantage of attracting students' attention. Instead of opening different files on the computer, teachers can simply embed the materials into the same post. Students can make comments, participate in polls and share new ideas. That's a great way to engage in learning English.

  4. I've tried to use the internet with primary five, we did a project about the olympics, however bacause of the students low ability they just copied and pasted everything they found into their powerpoint and cared more about putting animated gifts into the presentation than infomation.

i would like to find out more so i can use the internet with second language learners more effectively.

    Any suggests?

  5. I like the idea of a poll. Students can commment and vote whether you powerpoint or worksheet was interesting or useful and this can only help to improve your teaching.
